In 2003, Verisign released a service which caused a backlash. The service was called Site Finder and it routed all DNS lookups for non-existent domains (NXDOMAINs) to a Verisign web site.
A group of Internet users banded together to petition ICANN to stop Verisign's behavior. That petition is no longer operational, but we've captured the document and made it available as a PDF for future reference.
